Our Housing Program

Asylum Pride House’s current program runs out of a five-bedroom apartment in West Philadelphia PA. This space is dedicated exclusively to LGBTQIA+ immigrants seeking humanitarian protection in the US. Our housing is free and offers long-term stays up to three months after residents have received their work permits.

All housing residents are required to enroll in our case management program, which offers connections to local and national service providers. See our case management page for more details!

Eligibility Requirements

Safety and comfort are our top priorities for each resident living in our housing program. Residents are assigned an individual and lockable bedroom with access to shared bathrooms, kitchen, living room, and work station.

Each room is fitted with a bed, desk, closet, dresser, and night stand. Upon arrival, residents are also provided with initial resources, which often include:

  • Hygiene Welcome Basket

  • Grocery Cards

  • Basic Food Items

  • Clothes

  • Bedding

  • Laundry Basket

  • LGBTQIA+

  • Over 18 years old

  • Have intentions of applying for asylum or another form of legal status (TPS, T or U visa, etc.)

  • Have the ability to receive a work permit in the relatively near future

  • Must not have had their work permit for more than a month

FAQs

  • The most common timeframe for residents to live in our housing is 6-12 months.

  • As a small organization with limited housing capacity, we always have a wait list for placements. As room availability is based on the individual progress of our existing residents’ immigration cases, we cannot predict how long it might take for a room to open.

    If an individual referred is in a state of housing crisis, we work diligently to make referrals to other local and national housing programs who may have availability.

  • Yes, our staff prioritize trans and nonbinary individuals as well as individuals already located in Philadelphia.

    We also determine placements based on the level of need each individual is experiencing.

  • Immigration is complicated and ever changing. Our team works hard to meet recently arrived LGBTQIA+ immigrants where they are and adjust to the current needs of the community.

    We serve individuals with many types of immigration statuses - not limited to solely asylum seekers.

    This often includes individuals seeking another form of immigration status (ie. TPS, T Visa, U Visa, etc.), recently arrived refugees without support networks, or asylees recently released from a detention facilities.

    Even if you or your client do not fall into these categories, please still reach out and we can discuss what they might be eligible for!

  • We take referrals from both local and national organizations! Please complete our intake form (linked above) as well as send an email with any additional information.

    As needed, our staff will work closely with referring agents to successfully complete a warm hand-off as we place individuals into our housing program.

  • Yes you can refer yourself! Please complete the intake form (link above) and provide the most up to date contact information so we can reach out.

    It may take us a few days to respond. If you are experiencing an emergency, please locate the nearest shelter, crisis center, or hospital for immediate assistance.

  • Yes, we house couples! Our housing space is limited to one couple at a time - totaling at six residents in the house.
